Daddy's Girl

Hmmmm, I wonder who was responsible for dressing Ava today (thanks to Cheryl and Linda for the perfect little hat)? I don’t want to be one of those dads…really I don’t. Everyone keeps telling me how Ava is going to have me wrapped around her finger. They keep telling me she’s going to be Daddy’s little girl. And the fact is…I’ll be the first to admit it…she is Daddy’s Little Girl. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to lay down the law when the time is right. I know what you’re thinking, “just wait until she starts bringing home boyfriends.” Before I was actually a Dad I used to say, “nah, as long as they’re good guys I’m not going to worry about it.” But that’s pure BS. She’s not bringing home any boys, not on my watch. The only boy she needs to worry about is Daddy. Until she turns 29.

Dogs Love Ava

Every once in a while Bella does everything she can to try and get a couple Ava licks. We stop her immediately, of course, though I’m not sure why it’s that big of a deal. Kate says it’s because Bella’s tongue is not clean, but I’m not so sure there’s really any harm in giving Ava a couple licks. Though I guess some bit of common sense somewhere in the back of my brain still tells me it’s not appropriate. Either way, Bella obviously respects Ava as a new member of the family. In fact, when Ava is busy fussing, Bella often comes over to investigate, sniffing long enough to make sure everything is okay. She’s a wonderful dog and will be a great companion for Ava as she grows up.

Amanda is Next?

Kate and I always hated it when our friends and neighbors who had kids would give us a hard time about when we were going to be “next.” So here I am doing it to Amanda and Nic. Though doesn’t Amanda look like the perfect Mom with Ava in her arms? Actually, Amanda and Nic are going to watch Ava next week when Kate and I go see Ben Folds in concert (for the 2nd time this year…what an amazing performer by the way). We are really trying to avoid falling into the trap of never going out and doing things as a couple after having new children. Thanks to great friends and family (like Amanda and Nic, Erin, and Grandma Coddou) we’ve been able to get out about every couple weeks or so.

Tropical Ava (Another Cute Outfit)

I’m not sure who gave Ava this outfit, but it sure is cute. Hey, I have an idea! Let’s see how many times I can use the word cute in this Blog!

Busy Week

I started a new job this week, meaning I am no longer the Executive Officer to a 2-star General. You’d think that would mean I would have a little more time on my hands to post. But it seems that having a newborn at home takes up far more time than 12hr workdays ever did. I really mean to post every day…really I do…so please continue to check back. I promise no more than a week will ever go by without some new Ava news. For now, here’s a shot of her (and Bella…Chloe is around here somehwere also) getting ready for a walk.

Ava Loves Her Cute Outfits

If there’s one thing that is certainly true about Ava, she loves her cute outfits. “Ooooohhhhh, soooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuute,” is a statement that can’t be avoided when she’s all dressed up in her best (it’s also what I learned to say whenver opening a baby gift with clothing inside…”oooooohhhhhh, soooooo cuuuuuuuuute!”). I mean, as a guy I’ve never really paid a whole lot of attention to “outfits”. But Ava really does look “sooooooooo cuuuuuuuute” in her stuff. She has so many other things to wear, too…I promise to take more pictures and post them soon. I never would have imagined all of the outfits they have for babies…the little socks…the tiny shoes…the mini-hats. And people are so generous when you have a new baby! So many of our family and friends have surprised us with the most wonderful gifts, but I’m starting to get a good picture of how much keeping such a diverse wardrobe updated is going to dig into the pocketbook. I love her, though, and she deserves to look her best!
