Pops Feeds Ava and Puts Her to Sleep!

As you can see here, my Dad has an easy time getting Ava to sleep. As a matter of fact, he managed to feed Ava an entire bottle just before this photo was taken. She is so well behaved lately! She has no problem getting to sleep…the swing works wonders, but she’s also able to put herself to sleep in the crib as well. Just need to lay her down, turn on a little music, and she’s out! She’s also slowed down a bit on the eating…used to be she needed to eat every 2-3 hours, now she can go 4 or 5 without getting fussy. Last night she went to sleep at 10pm and didn’t get up for food until around 4am. Pretty soon she’ll be sleeping through the night!

Ava Meets Grandma & Grandpa Sasser

My folks are here and have finally had a chance to meet Ava for the first time. As you can see, Ava is quite comfortable in Grandma’s arms and has no problem falling asleep. With Kate going back to work, it definitely makes things easier having two helping hands in the house. On a related note, I’ve even been cooking dinner each night, including Grilled Steak and Peach Salad with Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing and stuffed mushrooms yesterday evening. Everyone said the dinner was outstanding. I try not to boast too much, but it really was amazing. I wouldn’t have felt cheated paying $40 at a 5-star restaurant for that dinner…I really can’t believe I made it myself…even had the presentation down (wish someone had taken a picture). It proves that anyone can cook if they just put their mind to it (and watching Food 911 on the Food Network helps too).

Ava's Mom Returns to Her Research

Today was Kate’s first day back at work after taking 8 weeks of maternity leave. Needless to say, she was not very excited to leave Ava behind. But the good thing is that I have a couple of weeks off due to my parents visiting, so I’m able to be here with Ava and smooth the transition over a bit (and having my folks here is a big help). While this is tough for Kate, she realizes that giving up on her PhD after getting so close would not be the best idea. Once she earns her Doctorate it stays with her forever, which will only benefit Ava and the rest of our family in the long run. Even if she decides to be a stay-at-home mom for a while after she graduates, that PhD is never going away and there will always be a company out there eager to hire such a brilliant scientist. And it’s not like she could just stop now and pick up the research again later anyway…if she were to stop now, she would have to start from scratch and 4 years of research…all those grueling weeks spent studying for and passing her PhD candidacy boards…would be down the drain. The bottom line is, Ava and I support Kate 100% and will do everything we can to make this next year-and-a-half as smooth as possible. Ava says, “Go Mommy, you are the best scientist on the planet…I see a Nobel Prize in your future!”
