6 weeks old.

Baby M is 6 weeks old now.  She is still doing great.  She is awake in little bits and pieces and otherwise is asleep in the swing or my arms.  The Bjorn has become our new BFF.  She had definitely grown quite a bit.  She is still a mellow “chillaxed” baby, despite some serious gas pains in the evenings.  We do not quite have a routine yet.  So far, we’ve just been treading water and going with the flow.   It’s been a busy 6 weeks for our little fam.  We’ve had lots of great visitors, Dave and I celebrated our TENTH anniversary (with some yummy take-out on the couch…tropical vacation next year???), Ava and Olivia had spring break and I spent a few days at my parents…it has just been a whirlwind since M arrived and I’m feeling the need to retreat and just “BE” with my little ones.  I think they are feeling it too.  Ava has suddenly morphed into master negotiator, trying to negotiate on everything we say.  She has had some trouble listening and following the rules lately.  Olivia has entered into the “early terrible twos” with lots of melt-downs and frustrated temper tantrums.  She has realized how to scoot stools over to whatever it is that she wants…which makes child-proofing her world even more difficult.  And, even little M is getting away with too much because I am just too tired.  I was so great to nurse my other two girls at night and then put them back in their bassinet to sleep. With Mia, I just fall back asleep holding her or letting her sleep in the bed with Dave and I. Somehow even getting up to make the trip to the crib (which is in our room right now) seems like too great a trek.  In general, we just need a little parenting regroup!

Why the kids are never clean when Dave comes home.

Who can resist fresh spring mud puddles?

Keeping little hands busy (or why the house is never clean when Dave comes home).

Banana bread anyone?

Great friends= Great time.

We were lucky to have our good friends Nick and Amanda (and new baby Josephine) come see us for a couple days.  We were all in grad school together and they are now living the academic dream in Birmingham, AL.  I was nervous that they would find our gaggle of girls a bit overwhelming, but they just went with the flow (the best kind of friends).  Amanda and I waved down the hall each night when we were getting up to nurse our babies.  We celebrated Amanda’s big 30th birthday, played with the girls, and even got out for an adults only dinner (thanks Sara).  It was great to see them, catch up, and meet little Josie.  They are such great friends and we miss hanging out with them.

PS Amanda-  I forgot to give you your Twilight books… I’ll mail them to you!

Three weeks old.

When Mia was in the NICU the nurses called her Popeye because she would always open just one eye to first check things out.  She still does this and it cracks me up.  Even at night during nursing, she will open one little eye to look around before dropping back off to sleep.  At the three week mark she is doing really well.  She is gaining weight, eating great and just being cute!

First bath.

Ava was excited to help give Mia her first bath (this was last week, although I am just now getting to posting it).  Can you believe all three of these kiddos are ours??

Grandmas are wonderful people.

Aren’t we so thankful for grandmas?  We had help with us for about two weeks.  Helen and Michael were here for Mia’s birth and stayed for a week.  Then, my Mom came up to spend this past week with us.  This was really helpful because I still couldn’t drive and wasn’t quite back to myself yet.  Now, everyone is gone and it is just us again.  I am feeling really, really good.  But, the true test will come on Monday when Dave heads off to work and it is me and the girls…  luckily I have some more time off work and will be able to focus on juggling THREE babies (OK, one preschooler, one toddler, and one baby).

Olivia and Mia.

Olivia has finally clued in that we have a new baby in the house.  She seems OK with it so far. Of course, we have also had help with us since Mia arrived home.  Now that all company is gone, it’ll be interesting to see how she handles the new addition with no one else to entertain her.  So far, she likes “baby” and wants to teach her how to do “…the wheels on the bus go round and round…”

Rodeo days.

This Friday was rodeo day at Ava’s school.  Grandma helped us pull together an outfit any cowgirl would be proud of!  Yeehaw.

Settling in.

We are getting settled in.  We do not have a “routine” yet, but we are getting there slowly.  Mia is a sweetheart and is rarely fussy unless hungry or gassy.    She is eating well and seems to be gaining some weight.  Big sisters are adjusting so far.   Now I just need to get better at typing with one hand!
