Bath time is the best…
Oct 4th

Ava loves her bath time. Our evening routine has become pretty simple. When she starts to get fussy around 7:30 we get the bath ready and lay out her PJs while she watches her mobile in the crib. Then comes the bath…she loves to kick and splash and gets really thrilled when she manages to splash the water on her face. It is pretty funny because I don’t think she realizes that SHE is responsible for getting the water in her face. She just thinks it is funny. After bath comes a bedtime snack, and then sleepy-head goes down for the night. She is pretty good about falling to sleep on her own by now. She still gets up for a 2 or 3 AM feeding, but at least I get a few hours sleep in there.

Ava and Ethan
Sep 24th

Ava’s first friend is little Ethan. I watch Ethan on Wednesdays and his mom (Kim) watches Ava the other days of the week. This arrangement is working great and Ethan and Ava are getting used to each other. The new toy that everyone loves is this aquarium bouncer. I bought it this week, and both Ava and Ethan LOVE to watch the little fish inside blow bubbles and make noise. It has been a great purchase already.

Sleeping Milestone
Sep 11th
Last night, Ava Sasser had two milestones! We put the bassinett away and she slept in the crib for the first time during the night. Also, she slept the ENTIRE night. That’s right….from 10pm until 6am, we didn’t hear any crying. I kept getting up during the night to check on her. Our house is really small, and her crib is not really that far from our bedroom (maybe 5 paces). But, I was still worried about her since she has never slept that long. She is going to be indpendent obviously, since she clearly did not miss us! I have to admit, I kind of missed having her next to me in her bassinett, but I know she is getting bigger and its time for her to sleep in her own room. What a big baby girl!

Ava talks with Daddy!
Sep 11th

Ava sure loves her Daddy! She loves to have him hold her so she is facing out at the world and can look around. She also loves to “talk” with him during the day. She is practicing her vowel sounds now.
As her mom (and her main food source, I might add) I must admit that she is already a Daddy’s girl. Of course, Dave assures me that he is going to be the disciplinarian…. any bets on that one????
Bella Loves Ava!
Aug 30th

Bella seems to love Ava more each day. She always looks to see what the problem is when Ava is crying or upset. She also lays right near her when Ava is on the floor playing. We are still very careful though, simply because Bella is so big (90 lbs) and could do a lot of damage without meaning to. I think Bella is secretly plotting for the time when Ava can be a food distributor…she knows that small children usually equates to a trail of food scraps.
Ava's Mom Signs In
Aug 30th

Dave has informed me that this is supposed to be a “Dad’s” blog, but I think since I spend my days with Ava that I should also be able to share info with all of you. Of course, that is about to change a bit this week when I head back to work. Maybe this is a little late start…but those of you who know me, know that I am a little techno-challanged. So, I finally got Dave to show me how to post here, and I intend to do it more often. Ava is changing so fast it is amazing! I think if we had time lapse photography we could watch her grow in real time. Of course, I won’t suggest that to Dave because he would probably figure out a way to rig that up, and no one needs THAT many baby photos. I am very nervous about going back to work. I think it is going to be much harder on me than Ava. We couldn’t be luckier because she will be staying with a lovely friend of ours during the day (Kim) four days a week. Kim already has one little boy, so she is a professional baby-whisperer/guru already. I am so thankful that Ava will be able to spend her days with someone we know and trust, who will nurture her and help her grow. I will be home with her one day a week, and Dave will pick up the weekend day. It is the best schedule we could manage for now, and I think it will work out well. Of course, she will have two weeks with her Grandma and Grandpa Sasser before she starts with Kim. I think they will have fun together! Dave will be taking some time off work to help out as well, so there should be plenty of baby back-up when a crisis arises!
