Musings.

Ava: Mommy, what is this thing? (Staring at her hands and fingernails).
Me: That’s your fingernail.
Ava: (Staring for a little while) I think it’s sleeping on my finger. I think it likes it.

2 1/2 going on thirteen.

Ava turned 2 1/2 on Sunday. The half does seem important these days. Potty training seems to have gone well. Sometimes Ava gets to playing and I can tell she needs to go to the bathroom but doesn’t want to. This is the only time we have accidents. So, when I saw her grabbing her pants I said,
“Ava, you need to go potty”.
Ava replies, “I just hold it Mommy.”
“No, you really need to go. Let’s go now before you have an accident.”
You can almost hear the eye roll as she says, “OK, OK…I know, I know Mom.”
“Excuse me, when did you become thirteen?”

3 months old.

Time is flying. Olivia is so close to rolling over and loves to stand whenever you are holding her. We have to strap her into everything because she scoots and moves so much you can’t leave her to her own devices. Love her “talking” (oohs and ahhhs are the words of the moment). I need to do so much better about journaling stuff with her. With Ava, I always wrote everything down and wrote her a letter every month chronicling her milestones. Between having Olivia, moving, sick kids, and the holidays, I am just playing catch up. Guess I need to get busy!

Olivia's favorite toy.

Olivia loved this kick toy that lights up and sings when she kicks it. She also loved discovering her fingers! She is so close to rolling over, she turns on her side but can’t make it all the way over.

2nd favorite.

She also loved this Purfect kitty that purs and meows, and slurps when you give it milk. I think a real cat is in our future someday.

Ava's favorite Christmas present.

Who knew? Forget all the gifts, we could have just wrapped this stuff up in a box and given it to her! Next year, maybe?

Our Christmas present.

We are getting ready to move into our new house! Yeah! Complete with a park down the street that has plenty of swings for Ava and bear-bear. And of course, resident geese and ducks who will be needing some extra crackers and bread when we go for walks.

So much to be thankful for on Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone! We are having a wonderful day as a family after some long days with Olivia being in the hospital. She had RSV and after visiting our pediatrician two days in a row, breathing treatments, and other medication; she continued to get worse. In the middle of the night she started running a very high fever, stopped nursing, and had sounded like an old man with a decades-long smoking addiction. I took her to Texas Children’s ER. She was positive for RSV but since her white blood cell count was so high they had to do a spinal tap. THREE tries later… white blood cells were in the spinal fluid. Of course, this could also be due to the fact that they had to do the puncture three times and allowed blood into the tap. But, to be on the safe side, they admitted her and started her on high dose antibiotics. While this was a difficult three days, it left me thankful for so many things. Thankful for family nearby who stepped in to take care of Ava. Thankful for good medical care when its needed. And after seeing all the parents with sick, sick, sick children…SOOOOO thankful that our child will recover and come home to return to her normal healthy self. That is the best Christmas present in the world. Hope all of you are having a wonderful holiday filled with family, loved ones, good food, great laughs, and all your heart desires!

Happy December

We tried to get some family pictures for Christmas. It is almost impossible to get everyone fed, dry, dressed, and smiling all together before the sun goes down. I love the family one except for the giant glob of spit-up that Olivia has running down her chin! I need to learn photoshop so I can doctor that one in time for Christmas cards. :-)

"Ginger house" time.

When I told Ava we could make a gingerbread house, she was so excited…the next morning she popped out of bed at 6 am and the first thing out of her mouth was, “Are we going to make a ginger house today, Mommy?”
